10 Guest Bedroom Decor Ideas

Guest bedrooms should be cozy and inviting for your friends and family. How can you create a relaxing environment?

Creating a cozy guest bedroom can be a challenge, especially if you like to host friends and family often. You want the space to be comfortable and relaxing, but it can be difficult to outfit a room that all guests will feel comfortable in. Since it’s almost impossible to please everyone, consider making this space a fun and cozy room where your guests will feel invited and cared for.

Using a “less is more” approach, you can create a gorgeous room that all guests will love staying in, regardless of their specific styles and tastes. Using functional furniture, providing plenty of space for storage, and including a cozy bed will get you on the right track!

Here are 10 ways to decorate a cozy guest bedroom.

1. Add a Fun Mirror

Mirrors are great decor pieces in any room. They’re a functional item in bedrooms because you can check your outfit before heading out for the day or make sure you look professional for a big office meeting.

Using a floor-length mirror in the guest bedroom will allow your guests to check their outfits before spending time with you and the family. They’ll have confidence that they look okay before stepping out for the day, and it gives them a place to style their hair and makeup instead of taking up space in the bathroom.

You can also add a mirror above the dresser and use it as a fun decor piece. You can find an antique mirror or a round mirror with a funky frame to add character to this space.

2. Create a Sitting Area

Creating a space to sit and enjoy coffee in the morning or a good book in the evenings is a great addition to any room. Adding this space to a guest bedroom could be easier than you might think.

If there’s a natural bump out in the room or an open corner, you could add a simple chair and a small side table to allow your company to sit and enjoy the mornings or evenings. If you don’t have extra space in a corner or a designated spot, you can still implement this idea.

Using a set of chairs and a small end table at the foot of the bed will add a separate area specifically for relaxation and comfort. It breaks up the room and has practical use for your company, and it looks great!

3. Choose a Neutral Bedframe

If you have a large family or host company throughout the year, select neutral decor and a bedframe for this space. Creating a room with masculine and feminine touches mixed in with neutral colors will help the area feel welcoming to any guest.

Using items like a gray or off-white cloth bed frame and a neutral color bedspread will help this room feel cozy and welcoming to anyone who may stay with you. Add natural wood elements, metal accents, and a splash of color to complement the calm and neutral tones.

4. Create an Accent Wall

Adding a fun accent wall will help this space feel fun and vibrant, and the best is you don’t have to spend much money to achieve this! Creating an accent wall will draw your eyes where you want them to go, and it often makes small rooms feel larger.

Using a dark color on the wall with the bed will help this space feel intimate and welcoming, and it will add a ton of character. A dark blue wall color would look great in this space and allows you to add fun accents like gold and metal finishes. You can still use neutral colors for the bed frame and large decor pieces and let the accent wall become the wow factor.

5. Add Unique Sconces

Lighting is very important to any room, and it can make a huge difference in the tone of a space. Adding unique sconces on either side of the bed would be a great addition to your guest bedroom. It adds character and interest while also adding functional light.

Adding sconce lighting allows your guests to turn off the overhead light but still have dim and intimate lighting to read or get ready for bed at night. Adding one on each side of the bed will frame the room and become a functional decor piece that your company will greatly appreciate.

Try to find matching sconces at an antique store or an estate sale to add some charm. You can even use the same ones that you used in other areas of the house to help your company feel connected to the home instead of isolated.

6. Find an Antique Bedside Table

Chances are, your company will need a place to keep their phones, jewelry, and wallet at night. Adding antique bedside tables on each side of the bed allows them to keep all of their valuables in one spot.

Finding antique tables at a thrift store or antique mall will bring character and charm into this space. You can use traditional square tables, or if the space permits, use a long table that could double as an extra dresser for any long-term visitors. Try to keep this space clutter-free, and use only necessary items here to give your visitors a place for their valuables.

7. Use Bedside Lamps

Once you have the perfect bedside tables picked out, choose some simple bedside lamps. Adding soft lighting close to the bed is important in rooms with only an overhead light. The lamps will help your company ease into the morning or get ready for bed at night.

You can keep the lamps simple in this space since they likely won’t get used every day. Try to keep them neutral to match the colors and theme of the room. It’s also a good idea to use small or medium-size lamps to prevent them from taking up too much space on the bedside tables. You’ll want your visitors to have room for a glass of water, their phones, and wallets.

8. Create Areas For Storage

Even if you don’t host long-term visitors on a regular basis, it’s nice to provide your company with plenty of storage in case they need it. Adding functional furniture and decor that doubles as storage is a great option for this space.

Try to include a dresser that has plenty of top space for a lamp, a picture, and maybe a calming candle that your visitors can enjoy during their stay. Adding a bedside table with storage underneath is another great way to add space without making it obvious.

If you have family members that do come to a stay for weeks or months at a time, consider using a bed frame with storage drawers underneath it. This could be a great spot for daily items and even some extra clothing, and it can remain hidden under the bed skirt.

9. Add a Rug

Using a rug in a spare bedroom can add textures, patterns, and colors to this space. If you have hardwood floors, this is a great option because your guests won’t have to put their feet on the cold floor in the mornings. You can use runners for the space between the wall and the bed or use a large rectangular rug to frame the bed.

Rugs are also great for breaking up the room into separate spaces. You can designate a sitting area or highlight the bed, all with just the use of rug placement. They also add a different texture to the room, creating interest and character, especially in small spaces.

10. Utilize a Color Scheme

Choosing a specific color scheme before you start adding decor and furniture to this room will help you stay focused and on track. You can choose to add multiple colors and work them in through decor, accent pieces, and furniture, or you can use neutral tones and highlight one specific color.

For a guest bedroom, using mainly neutral tones and picking one specific color like dark blue could be beneficial because it won’t be overwhelming. You can use throw pillows, blankets, lamps, and picture frames to highlight your designated pop of color.

You’ll want to keep things simple and use natural, earthy tones when possible to help the room remain warm and welcoming. Your pop of color can be as subtle or creative as you’d like it to be. Choose a warm color that will help your visitors feel relaxed while they’re getting ready for bed at the end of a long day.
