How to Clean Outside Windows That You Can’t Reach

Clean windows make a huge different in making a home feel tidy. How do you clean windows you can’t reach?
By

Homeownership is both exciting and stressful. I never imagined myself worried over something as trivial as washing a window. Nonetheless, cleaning windows that are located in inconvenient places is truly difficult.

What are some methods for cleaning a window’s outward-facing glass? I will cover all the methods in this article!

Cleaning High Windows

Are you looking for a way to clean out-of-reach windows outside? You can choose from three options:

Use a Ladder

The most obvious method is to use a ladder to reach the window and clean it. However, it is also the riskiest option. Use appropriate measures and safety equipment.

Here are some pointers:

  • Gather your tools, which should include a microfiber cloth, a spray bottle, a window cleaning solution, a high-quality squeegee, safety equipment, and a ladder.
  • Confirm that your ladder is properly secured and that your harnessing equipment is attached. In an ideal world, you would have someone hold the ladder’s base for you.
  • Apply window cleaning solution to the windows, then wipe them down with microfiber towels before squeegeeing them dry.
  • As an extra precaution, never clean high-up windows unless someone is within shouting distance in case of an accident.

Use an Extendable Squeegee

The safest technique to clean out-of-reach windows is to keep your feet firmly planted on the ground and wipe the panes with a hose and an extension squeegee.

Here are a few ideas:

  • Gather your materials: cleaning detergent, a pail of water, an extension pole, and a brush and squeegee that can be mounted to your extension pole are all required.
  • Hose the window down with water.
  • Dip your brush or sponge into a bucket of water with a few drops of cleaning solution.
  • Using your extension pole, scrub the window with your brush/sponge. Begin from the top and work your way down.
  • Rinse the window with your hose.
  • Attach your squeegee to your extension pole and drag it over the glass to remove excess water and create a glossy finish.

Use a U-shape Cleaning Pole

Cleaning the outside of your windows in a high-rise requires a little more effort. The view from up there is amazing, but you must keep your windows clean in order to really appreciate it. It is unpleasant to see smeared filth on the window.

If you have high windows, especially if you live in a high-rise building, you need to invest in specialized cleaning tools. The U-shaped telescopic window washing pole is the most basic and cost-effective piece of equipment. It’s great for cleaning outside upper-floor windows because it eliminates the need to reach out.

A less expensive approach is to use magnetic window cleaners. The results aren’t always great. Some filthy sections may still exist. You may need to use the magnetic cleaners several times to completely clean the glass.

These two approaches do not entail washing the window frames. You may have to use a telescopic cleaning pole to do that.

How to Make Sure No Streaks Are Left Behind

It usually doesn’t matter if you leave small streaks behind because no one will notice.

However, if it bothers you just knowing there are streaks or seeing them from the inside, you can employ the following tips:

  • Use a squeegee to help achieve a streak-free finish.
  • Wipe the window in an S-shape when cleaning.
  • Wipe the squeegee blade with a clean towel on a regular basis to prevent dirt from spreading.
  • Wipe away any remaining water with a microfiber cloth.
  • Avoid using paper towels or cloths that may leave lint on the glass.

Tips for How to Keep the Outside of Windows Clean

The simplest way to keep the exterior of your windows clean is to incorporate window washing into your regular home care routine.

Another cleaning technique is to use Rain-X 2-In-1 Glass Cleaner Plus Rain Repellent, a solution designed to be applied to automotive windshields to boost visibility and resistance to the elements while driving. But it also works for the windows in your home. It’s a great product if you want to keep them pristine.

What Type of Microfiber Cloth Should You Use

Take care with the cloth you use to wipe down your windows. Certain cloths and paper towels will leave lint on the glass surface. The last thing you want is to have to clean the window again since there is a lot of lint on it.

I like to use waffle weave towels. They absorb more fluid and produce no lint. You’ll never go back after using one. After wiping the damp surface with one side, flip to the opposite side to complete drying it.

Why Should You Should Do Regular Maintenance

If you maintain your windows on a regular basis, they will last longer. You are more likely to notice a problem while cleaning your windows, and you can quickly take care of it. Repairing critical components increases the lifespan of the glass. This means that you won’t have to replace your windows anytime soon. This, in turn, will save you a lot of money.
